Adobe has been introducing new features that enable greater creative design and efficiency. Furthermore, new features of product are getting easier to use. Especially, the contents would be still viewable in different devices, browser without downloading plug-ins. Designing for multiple screen sizes is intended for responsive web design by using a resizable design surface and media query breakpoints. As the previous articles said, consideration of the layout of different devices, browsers might make the users get information more clearly. Furthermore, Designer friendly features would allow user to express their idea effectively.

In terms of Adobe Muse, It is very customizable for creating website that looks good. Especially, the feature for web diagram looks useful to control overall website. Overall, Adobe Muse could help the users design website effectively compared to Dreamweaver that I have used before. I could remember that I learnt from last article, which is about advantages of group work. The reason why it came up is that simple way (designing website without a single line of code) might encourage designers to focus on expressing their own idea.

" The Cupcake Cake is systematic genius. A balance of consistency and variety, each cupcake is decorated with the same delicate piping technique, from a carefully selected color palette, with no drop of icing wasted. The result is surprising, delightful, and the highlight of the party."

According to this article, their design goal is to create the right amount of consistency and the website with good usability, rather than too much variation of contents that could cause confusing and overwhelming. I could learn that all designers who wrote articles I read for this project ask themselves many questions about the goals for what they are creating from various angles.
As editorial design including book, magazine design started from designing grid system to hanging all elements up on that grid system, web design also has grid system with little variation that make it clearer and more purposeful. It was very interesting that the writer mentioned that the cupcake cake could be one of the design systems.

Component Style Guides: Sweet Systems ›

According to this article, style tiles are created for a common visual language between the designers and the stakeholders. A moodboard is too vague and a comp is too literal sometimes while style tiles establish a direct connection with actual interface elements without defining layout.

Overall process of style tiles is similar to common design process such as listening to your clients with an invaluable amount of information, a survey of questions for the stakeholders. I think that style tiles might create a good deliverable design that consists typefaces, color swatches and interface elements that communicate the essence of a visual brand for the web, rather than just presenting moodboard and mockup with common design process.

According to this article, A style prototype a visual summary of a site’s proposed design direction that includes colors, typography, photographic style, button styles, rollovers, and so on. It also says that the ideal responsive web design should keep balanced between efficient workflow and effective client deliverable.

It was very worthwhile to learn the reason why we use a style prototype especially for a more efficient design process. Furthermore, the list of basic elements for style prototype helped me to understand and imagine what elements should be included. This article makes me recall the prototype for app (iPad size) that I have designed in my second year at Uni. It was very helpful for a better app at the end of the project by presenting works to the users and solving communication problem.

Overall process of web design has been explained from the viewpoint of both web users and designers in this article. The article also included 7 ways for creating a good hierarchy that would take it to responsive and informative website. In lectures and articles, I have been learning that different sizes of browsers (devices/ versions) should be considered for a good hierarchy. This article also includes experience-based better and easier way for managing not only design, but also effective communication with clients. This article and last two articles are about responsive design that agrees and adapts with changes of technology for getting better workflows and better communication with the users.

According to this article, great design would be more possible with collaboration. Even though working with others causes argument as well as good relationship, a collaborative work might bring better ideas, skills, decisions what I have not expected myself. Furthermore, the article includes not only what a collaborative team meant to be for getting better result, but also what the individual role in group would be.

It was very worthwhile to read this article that includes from individual attitudes to whole process. It also says that this process would be hard but I can do more than I ever could on my own if I trust and rely on my group.

According to the video, he was talking about that we should be the responsive designer even though it could be depends on project, concept, purpose, and so on. The talk was intended for that we should learn by asking ourselves, response to various situations rather than being stuck into a trend, rule, and one case.

I could learn that he has been asking himself everything he has been faced and taking him to responsive designer. Since I have watched his talk, I had a look his blog that is very simple. Simplicity really makes me focus on text, contents, navigation as he talked about it. I could find that a good hierarchy has been created by differentiating point size, alignment, bold, typeface, and so on. Furthermore, the point size of body text is big enough to read.

It was very worthwhile that I had a look his blog after I watched video. It helped me to understand what we could think for whole process of responsive design.

Abandon obsolete habits  ›

According to the article, we could find how web design of the mid-’90s have influenced on today's web same as that typewriter habits have influenced on today’s documents. Most habits came from the mechanical limitations that I have not realized before I read this article. Even though the technology has been continuously developed, those habits still exist.

The writer of this article tried to show the audiences how we could set these habits aside with written and designed examples. Those simply presented lists and images helped me to compare before and after clearly.

This article helped me to understand why we have been doing this for web design and how the technology has changed in terms of the web. Furthermore, the list of habits make me realize not only that those habits could be found from everywhere including book design, magazines and my designs, but also I could try to fix these habits for better design with the consideration of technology.

As responsive design has been becoming the new standard in every industries, communication between audience and every single content had lead to better workflow and efficient process. For that reasons, we have been encouraged to design the website with good navigation and usability.

I have been thinking that I have to start designing from desktop to mobile, which is from largest to smallest. According to this article, we should start thinking from default presentation and base content, which is mobile version. Mobile is one of the small devices with essential content. This approach also makes us concentrate on better usability, reduce the amount of unnecessary elements from web page. I could also learnt that figuring out the content first with appropriate research rather than designing would be useful informative website for the audiences. Furthermore, to start from content also bring form and shape.

The flexibility of web is very important. I experienced this so many times before I use smart phone. There are not many mobile version of website at that time. When I look at website from my mobile phone, It caused low readability, low efficiency with very slow connection, and so on.

It was very worthwhile to learn where I start from ,which is mobile view, for size adjustment in different views.

In terms of definition of usability, It was defined by 5 quality components including learn ability, efficiency, memorability, errors, satisfaction. I have been experiencing difficulties when using something, such as when I tried to not only use computer, software, but only find the information offline. It is important that these components are balanced well for a good usability. I left websites or gave up learning software that I found difficulties from using them. Those mean they failed for designing with a good usability.

According to this article ’Usability 101’, the users leave for various reasons depends on their situations including readability, legibility, functionality, right contents and information, and so on. For these reasons, design has to be considered with the right purposes with appropriate information that their target audiences need. Otherwise, a lack of these components might create various issues such as productivity, financial issues directly.

It was very worthwhile to learn about usability for design, especially user testing and how to fix the problem effectively. I would consider how easy and simple to users as well as how it looks when I design something. Furthermore, the design that failed to have a good usability might not show good result for business or promotion directly.
